Atlanta Kids Weekend Events: Feb. 7-9

From a glass-blowing class to an instructor-led urban planning challenge, Atlanta is full of hands-on fun for the entire family this weekend. Plus, family tours of The High and the newly-opened Orchid Daze exhibit at Atlanta Botanical Gardens means you’ll have plenty of ways to get out and play. Heart Paperweight Class at Decatur Glass Blowing
In this group class, students will get to make their own sculpted glass paperweight. This hot-glass learning experience will start by going over safety, tools, and equipment. The instructor will then demonstrate how to make a glass paperweight. Following the demonstration, each student will go through the steps one-on-one with the instructor to create their own piece. Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™: Secrets of the Sewer™ at Children’s Museum of Atlanta
Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™: Secrets of the Sewer™ invites children and their families (and fans of all ages!) to explore their individual and group potential, training as a team both physically and mentally, and then taking on the villains of New York City for an action-packed adventure. Family Tours of The High
Explore the High as a family on this interactive, docent-guided adventure in the galleries every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tours begin in the Taylor Lobby. All tours are free with Museum admission, and no reservations are required. Sat. & Sun. Event details.

Free Design Club at Museum of Design Atlanta
A hands-on activity in the lobby will allow children and adults to explore architectural models and to build their own, focusing on designing buildings and cities that are inclusive, sustainable, and help us live healthy lives. In MODA’s galleries, students and faculty from The Children’s School will be leading engineering challenges, where you’re invited to jump in and use K’Nex to solve one! Orchid Daze at Atlanta Botanical Garden
Orchid Daze, the Garden’s annual indoor plant exhibition, celebrates the vibrant presence of orchids in the contemporary gardens of Latin America. Across Latin America are many spectacular artists’ gardens. Orchid Daze draws its inspiration from the works of Luis Barragán, one of Mexico’s greatest and most original artists. And the best news? Gimme Please! at The Alliance
A play about the evolving nature of friendship, Gimme Please follows the journey of two friends—from initial meeting to lasting connection. Audiences are invited to watch and explore as the two friends pretend, provoke, and persist in getting what they want and need from the world and each other. Through the use of live music, as well as light and magic, this story draws audiences in with its deep sense of play and honest exploration of growing up and finding your path. Fri. Family Night Hike and Campfire at Chattahoochee Nature Center
Winter is one of the best times of year to explore nature at night. The winter world of CNC is on that deserves exploration in the dark. Listen for the sounds of winter in the woods and gaze up at the stars, while enjoying the crisp air of the season. A campfire where you can roast a marshmallow will be waiting for you as the evening wraps up. Sat. Event details

Enchanted Woodlands at Chattahoochee Nature Center
The fairies and gnomes have been busy building whimsical houses along Kingfisher Pond Trail. Slow down as you search for the houses made from tiny natural objects. Take notice of the beautiful and enchanting features of the winter woods. Fri.-Sun. Event details.


Summer Fun and Camp Expo at North Point Mall

National Kite Day Celebration at CHIRINGA
Revelers and kite flyers alike are invited to celebrate National Kite Day to the fullest at CHIRINGA by the Town Green Fountain, where there will also be live music performances, food, and drink specials. Games will be on-hand, courtesy of Cornhole ATL, including cornhole, Jenga, Connect 4 and ladder ball. A communal hangout for all ages, families and their little ones are also invited to create DIY kites and participate in arts and crafts activities. Sat. Event details.
