Welcome the first weekend of 2020 with an Atlanta adventure with you favorite pint-sized people. From last-calls for festive favorites to new and noteworthy events both ITP and OTP, you have plenty of ways to play. Keep reading for ideas on making the most of this first weekend of the new year.

Midtown

Ella Enchanted at Synchronicity Theatre
As a baby, Ella was given the “gift” to obey every command. Forced to do whatever is asked, including rubbing her stepsister’s stinky feet, Ella’s is an extraordinary journey to battle ogres, befriend a prince, and crash a giant’s wedding to find her fairy Godmother, Lucinda, to undo the spell. A mythical musical based on the book by Gail Carson Levine, this play explores what it means to find your voice and decide your own fate. Wear your pajamas to the Friday at 7 p.m. show! Fri.-Sun. Garden Lights, Holiday Nights at Atlanta Botanical Garden
Garden Lights, Holiday Nights presented by Invesco QQQ returns this year with new features and crowd favorites, including all-new music and motion for Atlanta’s favorite holiday spectacle, Nature’s Wonders, the largest curtain of synchronized light and sound in the world. Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival
This holiday season, marvel at the fantasy of lights on display during the Atlanta Chinese Lantern Festival’s Into the Wild spectacular, taking place at Centennial Olympic Park. This dazzling adventure will take you through an interactive land and sea experience while you play alongside larger-than-life illuminated lanterns and enjoy breathtaking acrobatic performances. Atlantic Station

Skate the Station
Skate the Station is as close as Atlanta gets to Rockefeller Plaza, with an outdoor rink surrounded by tall buildings, as you can get. Tickets are available at the ice rink ticket window and online, and holiday hours are from 3-11 p.m. Check the Atlantic Station website for weather related closures and hour changes before you go! Fri.-Sun. Cirque du Soleil VOLTA 
Watch amazing acrobatics as the Cirque performers tell the story of Waz, a gameshow contestant who must learn to be true to himself. But even if you don’t follow the plot, the performance is a visual feast. Fri.- Sun. Event details.

Toys “R” Us Experience
Toys“R”Us and Candytopia present a new fill-up-your-photo-album super-experience in a vast indoor playland that celebrates all the whimsy, silly and FUN of toys. Enchanted Woodlands at Chattahoochee Nature Center
The fairies and gnomes have been busy building whimsical houses along Kingfisher Pond Trail. Slow down as you search for the houses made from tiny natural objects. Take notice of the beautiful and enchanting features of the winter woods. Fri.-Sun. Event details.

Schoolhouse Rock Live at Roswell Cultural Arts Center
From 1970s TV to the stage, Schoolhouse Rock Live promises all the musical numbers of your childhood, re-packaged for theirs. A nervous schoolteacher learns how to capture students’ imaginations with songs about history, civics, science, math, and grammar, like “Just a Bill” and “Conjunction Junction.” Kids will want to blast off with “Interplanet Janet” on this colorful adventure! Free First Saturday at Dunwoody Nature Center: Fire!
With the guidance of DNC educators, learn how to make fire a few different ways. Use bow drills to create sparks like the Native Americans, practice with strikers and learn how to make a modern day campfire in our historic fireplace (including safety tips). Reward your efforts with a toasted marshmallow for a s’more to wrap up the hour during this free first Saturday event. Sat. Event details.

Stone Mountain

Snow Mountain at Stone Mountain
Conquer a 400-foot snow-covered tubing hill and enjoy an enormous snowy play area this winter at Stone Mountain Park. Get your thrills and chills on Dare Devil Plunge, where you’ll reach speeds up to 30 mph as you zip through a 150′ tunnel of lights! Be sure to check out Galactic Snow Tubing for an out-of-this-world nighttime tubing experience featuring color-changing lights and lasers that dance along to today’s hottest music. Christmas at the Farm Light Show
Take a hayride to a walk-through field of lights, enjoy a synchronized light show at the pavilion, and marvel at a barn bedazzled by light. Be sure to check the farm’s website for dates and times, as they vary and may experience weather-related closures. Fri.-Sun. Event details.

Buford

Snow Tubing at License to Chill in Lanier Islands Resort
Check out the country’s fastest snow tubing hill along the 575 feet long, 8-story high Parrot Mountain slide at License to Chill, where you can also take a spin around the ice rink, bounce in the inflatables at LandShark Landing, or play in the snow. Fri.-Sun. Event details.
