For a fresh take on the holidays, head to a Christmas tree farm. Choose from pre-cut trees, wreaths, and garland—or, of course—cut your own. For bonus points, pick up a hayride or a visit with Santa while you’re there. Just be sure to call before you go to verify hours, tree availability and COVID-19 safety protocols. Berry's Tree Farm

Opening for the season on Nov. 21, Berry's offers over 5,000 real Christmas trees to choose among, plus socially-distant pictures with Santa, train rides, and a petting zoo. Purchase pre-cut trees or saw your own.

Good to Know: Berry's offers snow flocking for an addition $5 per tree, plus assistance cutting, tying, and needling, if you'd like a hand.

Sleepy Hollow Farm

Expect a wide selection of high quality trees, including Leyland Cypress, Murry Cypress, Virginia Pines, Carolina Sapphires, Blue Ice, Naylors Blue, and Fraser Firs. Cut your own or pick up a fresh-cut Fraser Firs beginning Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Mondays (these people are our kind of people), but open from T-F from 2-6 p.m. and Sat. & Sun. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Good to Know: If you purchase a tree on Saturday or Sunday it’s no charge to visit the playground. If you want to come play on weekends without purchasing a tree it’s $5 per person (children under 2 are free). The playground is not open during the week. 

Prices: Cut-Your-Own are $8-$10 per foot, and Pre-Cut Frasier firs from North Carolina are $10-$12 per foot.

Hunter's Christmas Tree Farm

This family farm has been producing trees for over 20 years, and with prices starting at $6 a foot for Leyland and Murray Cypresses (and increasing with tree height and grade), and $8 a foot for fraser firs, Hunter's is one of the most reasonably-priced options around. Pick up your garland, wreaths, and tree stands while you're there, and don't forget to dive into the complimentary hot chocolate and cookies. Santa makes a stop at Hunter's on occasion, so check their Facebook page to plan your visits. Opens Nov. 21, and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to dusk, and weekdays from 4 p.m. to dusk. Closed Sundays.

Good to Know: Santa will be visiting the farm on Friday, Nov. 27, Sat. Nov 28th, and Sat. Dec. 5th. (Hours 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) Pony Rides will be provided by our partner Bear Foot Ranch on Friday, Nov. 27th and Sat. Nov 28th 10 a.m -2 p.m. (Donations appreciated)

Yule Forest Farm

Anytime after Thanksgiving, beginning Nov. 21, head to Yule Forest for pre-cut trees, cut-you-own Christmas trees, and flocked Christmas trees of all sizes, and stay for the hot apple cider, candy canes, hayrides and petting zoo. On the weekends, delight your elves with a trip to the fun zone for a nominal fee. Make sure to check Yule Forest's Facebook page to see updates on their stock of trees or unexpected closings due to weather or tree shortage.

Good to Know: Yule Forest is an official drop-off site for Toys For Tots, so bring and donate any new, unwrapped toys to brighten a child's holiday season.

Thompson's Tree Farm

You choose and you cut—or, you choose and they cut. No matter how you slice it this farm is fam-friendly with hay rides, s’more roasting and free hot chocolate and cider. The season begins Thanksgiving Day and closes when they sell out. Check the Facebook page for weather, operating hours, and supply-related announcements.

Bottoms Tree Farm

If the scent of freshly cut Christmas trees and apple cider doesn’t make you melt, then the taste of roasted marshmallows and the promise of happy kids playing corn hole while the nice folks at Bottoms helps you tie your tree on your car will. This farm offers a variety of pre-cut and cut your own trees, and your crew can enjoy a hay ride ($3/rider), a stroll around their lake, and checking out farm animals while you oversee the loading-up of this year's tree. Opening from Nov. 21 to  Dec. 19, but closed on Sundays. Check the Facebook page for weather, supply, and schedule changes before you go!

Good to Know: All four legged family members are welcome, but let them explore on a leash.

Coker Tree Farm

At this Marietta farm you can choose from four different varieties: Murray Cypress, Leyland Cypress, Carolina Sapphire and Fraser Fir, beginning Nov. 27.  Coker is open weekdays from 4-6 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and they provide the saws, tree shaking, wrapping and loading assistance (with elves, of course).

Good to Know: Cocker Tree Farm only accepts cash or check for payments.

Kinsey Family Farm

Beginning Nov. 21, select among both both pre-cut and cut-your-own Christmas trees, where you'll take a wagon ride out to choose your tree at this family farm in Gainesville. Select from a wide range of varieties: North Carolina Fraser Fir, Douglas Fir, Concolor Fir, Leyland Cypress, Carolina Sapphire Cypress, Blue Ice Cypress, Naylor's Blue Cypress, Norway Spruce, Eastern Hemlock and Deodar Cedar, then warm up around the fire with marshmallows and hot chocolate. Take a peek at their Facebook page to make sure weather, schedule, and supply all look good for your visit before you go. 

Good to Know: Kinsey Family Farm cannot take you into the fields to cut trees after dark, so be sure to arrive at the farm with ample daylight remaining if you intend to cut a tree from one of the fields. Currently the last tractor run is 5:30 p.m.
