Great news! It’s officially time to move your furniture back into its adult-appropriated spaces, remove the additional padding from your rugs, and sign your tiny tumblers up for one of the following awesome gymnastics classes for toddlers. Whether you’ve got a young Gabby Douglas or a little one who can barely forward-roll, there’s a class suited for your specific needs.
Atlanta Gymnastics Center
At this dedicated center, your budding gymnast has the option of taking a Mommy and Me class (under 3), a Preschool class (ages 3 to 5), or a more advanced Tumble Tikes class (by invitation only). Once your little has the basics under control and turns 6, things really accelerate, with instruction in each of the six Olympic gymnastics events.
Insider Info: AGC staff members hold valid USA Gymastics Safety Certification, and members of the staff also can be found on the Board of Directors of USA Gymnastics and the Amateur Athletic Union at both local and national levels. The bottom line: this is where you go if you want to train for the big leagues.
Details: Atlanta Gymnastics Center, 2617-B Talley Street, Decatur, GA 30030, 404-687-9911, Mommy and Me class is $90 for two months of weekly instruction, Preschool class is $110 for two months of weekly instruction, and Tumble Tikes is $130 for 1 hour of weekly instruction.
Jump Start Gym
With 9 classes for children ages birth to Kindergarten (plus a dozen more options for older kids), this is the spot to hit for variety, availability, and classes that are easily separated by non-gymnastics skill sets (crawlers are separate from walkers, who are separate from older toddlers, etc.). Parental involvement is required up until age 2, and they you have the option of participating in an On-My-Own class or continuing in an assisted program.
Hot Tip: Not sure if your short stack will take a shine to a structured gymnastics class? Head to Jump Start Gym during one of their Stay and Play hours to check out the facilities and have a little fun before starting an official class.
Buckhead Gymnastics Center
For children ages 2 and under, BGC offers a traditional Mommy & Me class that emphasizes having fun (and burning some energy). Tumblers ages 3 to 5 can enroll in a Kindergym course, focused on basic gymnastics skills, hand-eye coordination, and balance.
In the Know: BGC has a dedicated Cheer Program for older kids, so if you think your little twister might not be headed for the balance beam as much as the pom-poms, you’ve found the gym for you.
Want to work on your kiddo’s pre-gymnastics or gross-motor skills but not certain they’re going to go for a structured gymnastics program? My Gym’s classes are for you, my friend. Incorporating obstacle courses, relays, music, and special “rides,” each class works on the fundamentals of future gymnastics classes without those intimidating pommel horses hanging around.
While Peachtree Gymnastics has a dedicated gym for lessons, it also has a thriving satellite business at schools across Atlanta. With classes for the little set as young as 22 months old in three area locations (Buckhead, Roswell, and East Cobb), along with its gymnastics, cheer, and hip hop instruction at E. Rivers, Jackson, Morningside & Sarah Smith Elementary Schools and Peachtree Road Methodist Church, you’re bound to find a location and a time that suits you.
