Here in the South, waffles are serious stuff. You’ll find them served with fried chicken on many Southern menus—and, as the birthplace of the ubiquitous chain, nearby Avondale Estates even boasts an actual Waffle House Museum. Whether they like ’em scattered with bits of bacon, covered in syrup or smothered with strawberries—almost every kid enjoys the sweet, syrupy warmth of a waffle. Where do you find the best ones in town? We pulled on our yoga pants and headed out to test all Atlanta has to offer.
West Egg Café
Served with syrup and spiced honey butter, West Egg Cafe’s Belgian waffle is the fluffiest of the bunch. The sweet treat won’t weigh you down and almost doesn’t need the syrup. Parents can fuel up with locally-roasted Batdorf & Bronson coffee before popping by nearby tot shop the Seed Factory. Or, if you hit the hot spot at supper, order up their chicken and waffles served with hot pepper jelly syrup for a real southern-fried treat. They serve breakfast all day so go at non-peak hours to avoid the crazy crowds.
