rthomas

R. Thomas
This Atlanta staple is more than a hippie’s Waffle House. R. Thomas is also a great place to eat with the kiddos. Given its history of patrons with dietary restrictions (vegetarians, vegans), the staff is prepared to accommodate gluten-free requests. The kid’s menu features a pasta that can be prepared gluten-free (using rice pasta) upon request. Kid’s portions of the quesadillas and tacos are also available gluten-free by substituting the flour tortillas with rice tortillas. Offering kid’s meals for half the adult price, talking parrots, fresh smoothies and zany décor that is a feast for little eyes—what’s not to love?

Fuego

Fuego Mundo
An ideal place for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans alike, Fuego Mundo is one of few restaurants in Atlanta where all entrees and sides are naturally gluten-free, dairy-free and certified Kosher. But, there’s no skimping on ingredients here! Meats are marinated with homemade sauces, big on flavor but light on the spiciness for maximum taste and health benefits. Their children’s menu boasts a gluten-free 4-ounce grilled ribeye steak with the choice of a side—all of which are gluten-free. For little ones who prefer white meat over red, there is also a gluten-free grilled chicken breast option as well as kid classics like chicken fingers and sweet plantains. Your tot will sit in awe seeing her meal prepared right in front of her on a wood-fire grill!

cafejonah

Café Jonah
Eclectic and inspired in a New Age sort of way, Café Jonah is a cozy, quaint place to grab a breakfast bite or lunch with your little one. Ingredients are fresh, organic, local – delicious. And, while there isn’t a menu dedicated to kids, there are certainly kid-friendly options for pint size foodies, like the chicken salad and roasted vegetable frittata. On any given day there is also a variety of gluten-free cakes, including the super-popular lemon ice box cake, chocolate chip cookies and brownies. If you’re up to maneuvering around a large crowd, their “Pay What You Think It’s Worth” Sunday Brunch is a worth a visit, too.

goincoastal

Goin’ Coastal
Since recently spreading its wings from Canton to Virginia Highland, this sustainable seafood joint has become a neighborhood favorite. A casual environment, friendly staff and consistent quality food make it a good place for family breaks away from the daily dinner routine. While they don’t have a dedicated kid’s menu, all entrees are available on a smaller scale for half the grown up price. With a plethora of gluten-free options (clearly denoted on the menu), little seafood lovers can choose from the fresh fish of the day, prepared coastal, miso-style or blackened, shrimp risotto and stuffed chicken. If your little ones would rather create their own meal, there’s also a nice list of gluten-free sides, including whipped potatoes, vegetable medley and (mmm!) cheesy grits. (Note to Mom and Dad, on Mondays Maine lobsters are $20. Get there early because they go fast!)
