It’s beyond bedtime, there’a a blockbuster on the big screen, and the whole family is piled onto a blanket – could anything be better than an outdoor summer movie screening? Luckily for us, this year’s lineup of Atlanta outdoor flicks is as family friendly as an ice cream truck convention. And did we mention they’re free? Just don’t forget to pack the picnics and grab the bug spray!
Where: Town Brookhaven
When: Thursdays from May 28 – July 30th (Except for the week of July 4th)
Things to Know: Music and announcements begin approximately two hours prior to the screening, and while this is a free event full of family friendly movies on tap, they kindly prefer you to refrain from brining your own coolers, outside food and drinks, pets, or chairs. You are encouraged to bring your blankets, come early, and grab a picnic dinner at one of their restaurants to eat on the green.
6/11 Frozen (Sing-a-long)
7/9 The Goonies
8/6 Big Hero Six (Make-up Date)
Where: Atlantic Station
When: Thursdays through August 13
Things to Know: Movies in Atlantic Station are becoming an Atlanta summer tradition, so be sure to get there early and enjoy the activities planned before each film. Forgot your blanket? No worries. They have a limited number of soft, fleece blankets available to borrow, and you’re welcome to bring your own picnic. However, if you’d prefer to order from the take-out menus of Atlantic Station restaurants, you can do that, too.
6/18 The Lego Movie
7/23 101 Dalmatians
8/13 The Wizard of Oz
Where: Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre
When: Select Fridays through August
Things to Know: Located just outside of town in Marietta’s direction, Moovies at the Mable has an incredible line-up of free family films this summer in it’s covered amphitheatre (reminiscent of Chastain). Blankets are welcome, but please leave your chairs at home.
6/26 Penguins of Madagascar
7/10 Rio 2
7/24 How to Train Your Dragon 2
Where: Historic Downtown Duluth
When: 1st & 3rd Fridays through October (Except for the week of July 4th)

7/17 How To Train A Dragon 2
8/4 Guardians of the Galaxy
10/2 The Boxtrolls
