Tusks at Dusk
Discover the world of the largest living land mammal – the African elephant. Spend the evening learning about these majestic creatures through hands-on activities, crafts, observation through night-vision scopes and much more. Wake to an exclusive guided tour of the Zoo, a behind-the-scenes peek at our elephant barn and the unique opportunity to feed one of Zoo Atlanta’s very own pachyderm pals! Callanwolde Arts Festival 2014
The Callanwolde Arts Festival is a two-day indoor festival located in one of the most distinctive historic properties in Atlanta. This event will feature approximately 80 painters, photographers, sculptors, metalwork, glass artists, jewelers and more! The Festival will also offer artist demonstrations, live acoustic music, plus gourmet food trucks with healthy alternatives. Sat. & Sun., 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, $5. Trains, Trains, Trains
Woot, woot! The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History in Kennesaw, Georgia, will kick off its packed 2014 calendar of events with a family day focusing on all aspects of trains. The “Trains, Trains, Trains” event will include operating model train layouts and railroad crafts. Sat., 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, $7.50 for adults, $5.50 for children ages 4-12 and free for children three and Museum members. All ages. Laurie Berkner, popular children’s music artist and preschool TV star, performs a solo concert featuring songs from several of her CDs. Adults and children can sing and dance along to her original tunes with quirky lyrics. VIP packages include a meet and greet with a photo opportunity. Sat., 2 p.m., Center Stage, $25-50. All ages. Battle This Book Gala
Inspired by Mac Barnett and Jon Scieszka’s new book, Battle Bunny, kids can bring in picture books they have transformed (with markers, pencils, pens, and whatever else their genius deems necessary) into something you think every kid will look at and say “Now it’s AWESOME!” Come enjoy a gallery showing for all the works turned in, so they can display their work of art and admire other kids’ creations. (Please note that the last day to turn in books for this event is Friday, January 24 at 9 p.m.) Sun., 3 p.m., Little Shop of Stories, Free. All ages. Event details.
