The weekend is here, and it’s time to dive in for some family-friendly fun. Make a splash at the Fernbank’s Fins and Flippers Day. Build their imaginations at the LEGO KidsFest. If the littles are loco for locomotives, hit the Georgia International Horse Park for a cheap thrill. Celebrate the arts at the Old Fourth Ward Park Arts Festival or history at the 150th Commemoration of the Battle of Kennesaw.


Fins and Flippers Day
Splash into a day of family fun featuring a variety of ocean-themed games and crafts featuring That Puppet Guy, The Georgia Bubbleman, inflatables, learning tables and scavenger hunts. LEGO KidsFest
See life-sized models built from LEGO bricks (displays include Batman, the Incredible Hulk, and Lightening McQueen), and build your own creations in one activity- and entertainment-packed family event for children of all ages and builders of all skills and interests. Ride Miniature Trains
North Georgia Live Steamers offer rides on the miniature trains on their newly laid tracks at the Georgia International Horse Park. Sat., 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Cobb Galleria Centre, $2 per ride. All ages. Event details.

Old Fourth Ward Park Arts Festival 2014
Enjoy art from up to 150 local and regional artists carefully chosen to reflect this historic but progressive neighborhood. Along with the fine arts and crafts there will be a children’s play area, local food and beverage concessions and live acoustic entertainment. Sat. & Sun., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Old Fourth Ward Park, Free. All ages. Event details.

The 150th Commemoration of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain
The National Park Service commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain with various events including cannon demonstrations, guided hikes, and a Civil War fashion show, along with Civil War medical tents, activities for children and various speakers and presentations.
