The Great Outdoor Adventure
Head down to Rock Ranch for one of their fall family fun days. Meet members of the animal kingdom, see an awesome reptile show by Jason Clark of Animal Planet as well as other educational stations. Enjoy all of Rock Ranch’s family fun including Tiny Town, pony rides, petting zoo, zip lines and more. Sat. 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., The Rock Ranch, $15, kids 3 and under are free. All ages. The National Wildlife Federation’s Hike & Seek
The National Wildlife Federation’s fifth annual 2014 Hike & Seek is a cross between a scavenger hunt and nature walk with live wildlife encounters, nature activities and fun interactive stations along the trail. The one to two mile go-at-your-own-pace nature walk will have interactive “Stop & Study” nature stations with engaging learning activities including nature crafts, live wildlife encounters, and much more. Every child participant is given a Map & Mission Guidebook to direct their path and will receive an Honorary Junior Naturalist badge from Ranger Rick at the end of the hike. Science at Hand Day
Astronomy, biology, chemistry—oh my! Which of the sciences will you try? Don’t miss this smart way for tots to learn what it’s like to be a scientist and explore different scientific fields. Guests will enjoy one-on-one opportunities to talk with scientists and community volunteers, learn more about sciences through hands-on activities and more. The Science Wondershop with Dr. Science
The Science Wondershop offers children the opportunity to explore science through exciting hands-on activities. The program is designed for adult-child interaction to encourage imagination, curiosity, and an interest in our world. Limited space available. Max. of 20 children. Model Railroad Days
If you really want to get your little locomotive lover a tooting, don’t miss this event where the museum will be a stop on the Piedmont Pilgrimage, the Piedmont Division NMRA annual tour of model railroads. The museum’s inventory of 90 items of rolling stock including historic Pullman cars and classic steam locomotives is sure to get the fun on track.
