With such lifesaving forces all in one handy product, is it any wonder that WABI BABY was your Totally Awesome pick for best cleaning product around?
WABI BABY Founder Heidi Chen recently took the time to chat with us about the origins of the company, how she balances business with parenthood, and more. Read on:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations on being voted “Most Awesome” by your community! What do you think your customers value most about your business?
Heidi Chen: I think customers appreciate the uniqueness of my product. Though I really think this should be a poll question to everyone who supported and voted for us—it would be nice to hear some feedbacks from everyone!
RT: What inspired you to start your business?
HC: I grew up in an entrepreneurial family, watching my parents build their business. From a young age, I’ve always imagined myself owning my own business but was never able to find something I was really passionate about. Then, I became pregnant and it opened up a whole world for me. I was able see and understand the challenge (and joy!) of caring for a baby. As a new mom, I always wished there were products like WABI BABY available, but could never find them. Then I realized—I could be the one to bring those wonderful products to the market!
RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?
HC: Believe in yourself. There will always be people who tell you what you do doesn’t work, but at the end of the day, only you would know what works and what doesn’t.
RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?
HC: The answer here is simple: if you want to spend time with your children, you can make it happen. It’s easy to say “I’m busy” or “I have to work.” But if there is will, there is a way. Fortunately, my husband is pretty hands-on with the kids, so we rarely have to ask family for help. My ability to take the kids to work helps a lot as well. My kids serve as my product inspiration, so having them around as I build and develop WABI BABY is an added bonus!
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?
HC: As a business owner, it was when our hard work and dedication was finally recognized. I also loved the moment we learned, through online reviews, what a great help our product was to our customers. So, please leave reviews for us!
As for my proud moments as a parent—I am such a proud parent! All it takes is my kids looking into my eyes, giving me a smile when I drop them off school, performing on stage—or sometimes, it takes nothing at all. Those eyes and happy faces tell me, “Mommy, don’t worry, I’m good and I’ll be good.” That confident eye contact and reassuring smile makes me proud.
