Are you looking for the best convertible car seat? Of course, you are. What mama isn’t? Well, Wirecutter recently announced their top picks. And you’re going to want to pay close attention. Their winner and runner-up weren’t just chosen at random. These best of the best convertibles are the result of 20 hours of research that included testing nine popular models and crash-testing the resulting top six. Before you buy a new car seat, check out what Wirecutter picked as the model earning top honors.

So what is Wirecutter and why should you care which baby gear they like? Wirecutter, which is now part of the New York Times Company, provides readers with lists of the best gear, gadgets and gizmos out there. And this doesn’t just include baby and kid gear. They also review everything from home and garden products to pet stuff.

For the top convertible car seat pick, Wirecutter looked at online customer reviews and media coverage to start with. They also interviewed experts on car seat safety and reviewed National Highway Transportation Safety Association (NHTSA) data. Oh, but that was only to narrow down their original list. They then tested the top seats for ease of installation and commissioned their own crash-testing.

And the winner is…the Britax Marathon ClickTight. But with all that testing, Wirecutter didn’t come out with only one pick. The runner-up for best convertible car seat was the Graco Extend2Fit.
