It’s confirmed: a fresh Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works and we can’t wait to sink our teeth into it. The show is in development with 20th Century Fox and will bring back original series creator Joss Whedon to oversee the update of the 21-year-old series.

It’s been 15 years since we last saw Buffy slay, and the updated version that’s being brought back to the small screen will have some big changes. No one has officially been cast in the show, but we do know the lead character will be played by an African-American actress.

The show will be taken in a new direction and producers told Deadline that “Like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today.”

There’s also no word on which network is interested in picking up the reboot, but with its popularity in the ’90s, we’re sure it won’t be long. Time will tell if any of the original cast members become involved in the revival project so stay tuned!
