Yee-haw! Swinging, climbing and sliding season is just getting started — and there are so many places to jump into the action. Chicago has more than 500 playgrounds. And 77 will be rehabbed or built this year, thanks to Mayor Emanuel’s Chicago Plays! program. Best Newcomer: Maggie Daley Park

If you haven’t heard about this grand dame of downtown, you've been hiding inside too long! From tall mega slides to bridges you can scamper across, this playground is a destination adventure the entire family will love. It all has a magnificent water/ocean theme, including a huge play-on boat. The park is still a work in progress, so keep your eyes open for new features. Find it at 337 E. Randolph St. downtown.
