Yee-haw! Swinging, climbing and sliding season is just getting started — and there are so many places to jump into the action. Chicago has more than 500 playgrounds. And 77 will be rehabbed or built this year, thanks to Mayor Emanuel’s Chicago Plays! program. Flip through our album to see our “best” list, from ginormous slides to beachside gems to great terrain for toddlers. And keep a lookout for our best of the suburbs picks, coming soon.

Best Climbing Structures: A. Montgomery Playground

Spin ‘round the world on the large climbing dome, explore the rolling mounds and challenge yourself to run, jump and explore. Across the playground, a large rope structure beckons for more Tarzan-style adventures. Reach the top and take in the city skyline and boats gliding by on the river. Find it at 630 N. Kingsbury St. in River North. Online: chicagoparkdistrict.com

Others to climb:
Union Playground: 1501 W. Randolph St., West Loop
Buttercup Playground: 4901 N. Sheridan Rd., Uptown
