Chicago Children’s Museum is kicking off the Pride celebration a little early this year on International Family Equality Day with festivities on May 6, and activities all through May and June. Through the end of June, help transform the central staircase into a giant rainbow by adding colorful ribbons every time you visit and write your ideas about family on a huge chalkboard.
To kick things off, the following activities are scheduled for May 6:
10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Families can access helpful resources provided by Family Equality Council, Illinois Safe Schools Alliance and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospitals of Chicago.
11 a.m.-11:30 a.m.: Let Drag Queens lead you through a small-group story-time, live music, dress-up activities, a group photo and light snacks.
Noon-4 p.m.: Meet volunteers from PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and make an identity pin to keep.
1 p.m.-1:30 p.m.: Watch a fabulous performer bring stories to life and stick around to join the dance party with live musical performances.
2 p.m.-4 p.m.: Participate in Collect-a-Color rainbow scavenger hunt and make a bracelet to keep. Find clues to the colors all around the museum.
