Marta Poynter of Bright Little Island

Business is built around family time for this Lincoln Square mom. Marta created her company, Bright Little Island, because art was always part of her life. A one-time painter, she needed a new creative outlet because, as she describes it, “oil paints and babies do not mix!” At the end of her pregnancy with her oldest child, she decided to end her career as a flight attendant and fill the gap in the market for handmade hair accessories for little ones. Her pieces are largely made of Japanese art fabrics, wool felt, grosgrain ribbon and DMC embroidery floss. You can find her cute products in her Etsy shop, at Monica + Andy, Preggers and The Red Balloon Co. Also, be on the lookout for her new line of bow ties coming out this summer.
