Chicago is ready to flip the switch. You’ll hear oohs and aahs when streets, shopping centers and parks light up for the holidays — and you can be there when it happens. If you can’t make the kick-off ceremonies, don’t worry: these hotspots will stay brilliantly lit through the end of December. Click through our guide to the best and brightest.

BMO Bank 2015 Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

The big guy in red makes a special trip from the North Pole to ho-ho-ho his way down North Michigan Avenue during this annual event. And it's not just Santa your kids will fawn over -- Mickey and Minnie Mouse are there, too. They lead the jubilant motorcade, which runs from Oak Street to the Chicago River. As the procession moves along, more than one million tree lights are lit. Huge balloons, beloved holiday characters and a fireworks display are part of the fun. Stop by Lights Festival Lane for family friendly activities or encourage your family to get its groove on at the BMO Harris Bank Stage.
