You have your favorite neighborhood playground. It’s close to home, the monkey bars are marked with your kiddo’s handprints, and the tube slide practically calls you by name. But did you know there are more than 500 playgrounds in Chicago? Just imagine what else there is to explore. Go beyond the norm and click through our album of hidden gem spots for new-to-you, non-stop fun.
For Peace & Quiet (Really!): Sauganash Playground
This charming newer playground is so quiet you'll hear the birds singing. We love it for the unique play details (a small music section has drums and a faux xylophone that you can play with sticks) and multiple climbing structures for all ages. The generous grassy area and tables make it a prime picnic spot. Find it adjacent to the Sauganash Trail, a one-mile biking, walking and hiking trail.
5861 N. Kostner Ave., west of Pulaski and south of Peterson in the northwest corner of Chicago’s city limits. Get info about the park online at chicagoparkdistrict.com.
