Grow and Shine Photography was your Totally Awesome pick for best family photographer in Chicago, and it’s easy to understand why. Its owner, Edyta, is that rare breed of photographer who truly knows the value of preserving memories. Playing with natural light and smiles, she captures beautifully unique photos for families all over Chicagoland. Edyta recently took the time to talk about Grow and Shine’s success, the proud moments she’s experienced, and more. Read on:
Red Tricycle: Congratulations! Your community recently voted you “Most Awesome.” What do you think your customers value most about your business?
Edyta: I’ve asked them, and they tell me the creative and emotive power of my images. My customers know that I work hard before, during and after the shoot. My goal is to capture more than a family picture but the emotions that go with being a child, a family and a parent. I want my images to reflect the essence of the family.
RT: What inspired you to start your business?
Edyta: I’ve always had a passion for photography, but it really took off when my second child was born. I wanted to remember the joy and the love of every beautiful stage. I committed even more than ever before to photography to take beautiful pictures of my family and to be able to do it for others.
RT: Any advice for new business owners just getting started?
Edyta: Find your why. Focus on your passion. Love what you do, it will be infectious.
RT: Can you give us one tip for balancing entrepreneurship with parenthood?
Edyta: I’m a mom first and a photographer second, and the clarity of that vision helps me keep things in balance. But the real secret is to outsource everything you can and focus on what only you can do!
RT: What is your proudest moment as a business owner or parent?
Edyta: Since I started my photography business, I very quickly received recognition and opportunities that I would never have imagined. I’m so proud that my fellow moms here in Chicago cared enough to vote for me as Red Tricycle’s Best Family Photographer. Perhaps my proudest moment was when Monica + Andy’s (a very exciting new clothing line for kids) asked me to sign a long-term contract that would make me their exclusive fashion photographer while still leaving me time to work with Chicago families. Two years ago I was a new mom overwhelmed with how life changed, now I am an award-winning photographer (thanks Red Tricycle!) with a growing business! It’s all very humbling and motivating.
RT: Is there a special offer you’d like to include for Red Tricycle readers?
Edyta: Yes! Take advantage of 20% off packages #2 and #3. Please refer to the G&S website to check the price list and packages. Thank you.
