Will you choose the horse? The lion? The seal? Whatever animal you nab on the merry-go-round you’re going to have a whirling, twirling good time. Carousels are pure, nostalgic fun, but you can’t find them just anywhere — and that’s part of their charm. Flip through our album to discover the must-rides, from vintage roundabouts to serious double deckers.

For a Barnyard Blast: Lambs Farm

Situated on 72 acres north of Chicago in Libertyville, Lambs Farm is a non-profit that provides vocational and residential services to adults with developmental disabilities. Visitors can take a spin on the 16-horse Old World-themed carousel for $2 (adults ride free) or purchase an all-day pass ($12 kids; $8 adults). The all-day pass gives unlimited access to the carousel, farmyard with petting zoo, mini train, mini golf and bounce house. Guests can also enjoy a hearty meal at Magnolia Cafe and Bakery, a visit with adoptable furry friends at Lambs Farm’s Dogwood Garden and Pet Center that works in a partnership with the The Anti-Cruelty Society, and the Sugar Maple Country Store that sells handmade sweet treats, breads and jams.
