Will you choose the horse? The lion? The seal? Whatever animal you nab on the merry-go-round you’re going to have a whirling, twirling good time. Carousels are pure, nostalgic fun, but you can’t find them just anywhere — and that’s part of their charm. Flip through our album to discover the must-rides, from vintage roundabouts to serious double deckers.

For Pioneer Spirit: Blackberry Farm

Pioneer history comes to life all around you as you cruise up and down, round and round, on Blackberry Farm’s colorfully painted vintage metal carousel built in the 1950s. Daily admission to the farm ($7 kids; $8 adults) allows for unlimited rides on the carousel, plus educational historical demonstrations, hay wagon rides, pedal tractors, paddle boats, pony rides, and an adventure playground with extensive climbing decks, slides, ropes, and catwalk-style bridges connecting multiple playhouses. Several times throughout the year Illinois residents receive free admission, so be sure to check their website for dates.
