Will you choose the horse? The lion? The seal? Whatever animal you nab on the merry-go-round you’re going to have a whirling, twirling good time. Carousels are pure, nostalgic fun, but you can’t find them just anywhere — and that’s part of their charm. Flip through our album to discover the must-rides, from vintage roundabouts to serious double deckers.
For a Swashbuckling Adventure: Pirates Cove
Part of the Elk Grove Village Park District, Pirates Cove is home to a 1950s metal carousel with 20 hand-painted jumping horses and two chariots. The carousel is located at the park’s entrance and is the first attraction you’ll come across before hitting up the hand-propelled trains, Castle of Camelot playground, pirate ship, paddle boats, Pirate Plunge carpet slide, Pirate Pete’s 20-foot high climbing area, and Jolly Rogers bounce house. General admission into the park is $11 for children and is always free for adults.
