If kids ruled the world, then every city would be like Kidville. It’s a play space, dance and art studio, sports center, cafe, boutique, salon and birthday party spot all wrapped into one building that has enough happy-go-lucky energy to power a 747.

In short, it’s a kid’s dream. And it opens September 28 in Lincoln Park.

A Bit of Background
Kidville began in New York City and has since spread to cities nationwide. The Lincoln Park location, owned by a local mom, is the Midwest’s first. It caters to children ages 0-6 (with birthday parties for up to age 9) and works on a membership basis.

Signing up for one of its 25-plus classes (priced around $475 for 16 weeks) automatically makes you a “silver” member, which gets you two play space passes, discounts in the boutique and salon, and $100 off birthday parties. There are other tiers of membership, for an additional fee, that come with perks like unlimited access to the play space and bring-a-friend passes.

Classes, Classes & More Classes
Kids like to dabble in lots of different activities. That’s part of the reason Kidville offers such a wide range of classes. Its especially equipped for dance classes, ranging from ballet to tap to hip-hop. A dedicated dance studio has hardwood floors and mirrored walls for tiny twirlers to move in front of.  The studio is also used for some art classes and Kidville University, a preschool alternative program (yes, they have a preschool, too!).

Music classes get little ones moving and shaking in a theater complete with a stage and four-piece band. The band is Rockin’ Railroad and their live “set” is an exciting explosion of guitar, drums and keyboard. If you have a baby, there are Rockin’ Railroad Unplugged classes, which offer a more mellow vibe, exclusively for babies.

Sports-related fun centers in the gym, a colorful, padded space that’s packed with monkey bars, obstacle courses, a TumblTrak, rock climbing wall and even a zip line (it goes along a wall of windows, so you can whiz past with skyline views).

Open Play & Birthdays
If you just want to come and romp around, there are two sessions of open play, held every weekday. They take place in the gym and are supervised by the staff. Parents or caregivers can stay with their children during open play, or head to the onsite salon, cafe or boutique to unwind.

There are 16 birthday party themes to choose from (everything from dinosaurs to safaris to princesses) or you can customize your own. If you book a bash there, you get the whole shebang — exclusive use of the entire facility during the party, invites, an art table, pizza, juice, cake and party favors. You don’t need to be a Kidville member to have a party there.

Ready to play? Start exploring Kidville at the Grand Opening Party on September 28 & 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. You’ll hear Rockin’ Railroad play, enjoy open play in the gym, do crafts and more.

More good news! Red Tricycle readers get a discount of $50 off a full semester with promo code RED (mention when booking). This code expires 9/25/2014.
