When we heard that Splendid was opening a shop in Lakeview, we did a happy dance. (Yay for stylish maxi dresses and tee-shirts we could wear for days!) Then we found out that it would also sell kids’ clothes and pretty much lost our marbles. If you’re a fan of relaxed, quality cotton looks and like to dress your little one in them, too, then get ready to meet your newest shopping addiction: Splendid on Southport Avenue.
This is Splendid’s first Chicago shop (it also has one in Old Orchard in Skokie). It doesn’t disappoint. The feel is bright and coastal, with walls the color of Venice Beach sand, natural wood fixtures, tons of live plants, and floor-to-ceiling windows that welcome the sun. The merchandise for women, kids and baby is just as attractive — not to mention comfy. Splendid is known for its extraordinarily soft material that took 10 years to perfect.
The looks are colorful and uncomplicated, and feature vibrant colors and bold stripes. For kids, these are clothes than can go just about anywhere, from the playground to school to parties. Sizes start as small as newborn and go up to 14, and prices range $28-$78.
You’ll want to make a beeline to the short-sleeve baby bodysuits that have bright sailor stripes, but not before checking out the kids’ tunic sets layered in soft yellow and blue. A favorite for girls is the Leopard Tulip Dress, a sweet little frock with a leopard-print pattern. For boys, there’s the Bayside Stripe Baseball Pant Set, which has bright contrasting stripes on a classic baseball tee.
As its name suggests, we think it’s all nothing short of splendid.
Splendid is located at 3510 N. Southport Avenue. For more info, go to splendid.com.
