In what seemed like the blink of an eye, Southport Avenue in Lakeview became the most family-friendly street in Chicago. We spent a recent afternoon there and soaked up everything from a new community market to a hidden-gem park to an out-of-this-world barbershop. Flip through our photo album to see what editor Kelly and her two five-year-olds did on their afternoon blitz. Then get out there and choose your own adventure.
The main Southport Avenue stretch (i.e.: "Southport Corridor") spans from Belmont Avenue to Irving Park Road and is home to James G. Blaine School and the historic Music Box Theatre. The wide sidewalks, lush trees and colorful storefronts made our twin boys eager to explore.
