Summer is a great time to get out and about to explore the yummy parts of our great city. The mushrooming dining scene in Chicago constantly keeps us on our toes — new and fantastic eateries seem to pop up daily. In fact, according to the City of Chicago, there are more than 7,300 restaurants! Why not take to the streets, with kiddos in tow, and have a dessert fete? Go on a sugary adventure and indulge in the best that Chicago has to offer—here are a few to get you started.

SugarToad

Another great affordable and family-friendly Chicagoland dessert hot spot is SugarToad, located in Hotel Arista, a locally owned eco-friendly hotel. The seasonal crème brulee; house made chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin cookies; ice cream and seasonal jarred desserts are all good choices. For brunch, you can order the ricotta honey, fresh berries or hot Ghirardelli chocolate. And, who wouldn’t enjoy the after dinner desserts: limoncello flute, chocolate hazelnut flute or Italian caramel custard. After getting a sugar high, you can visit nearby Morton Arboretum, where kids can run around the Children’s Garden, take a tour on the Acorn Express tram, explore miles of wooded trails and check out the temporary exhibit here thru Oct. 22, Origami in the Garden.
