Summer is a great time to get out and about to explore the yummy parts of our great city. The mushrooming dining scene in Chicago constantly keeps us on our toes — new and fantastic eateries seem to pop up daily. In fact, according to the City of Chicago, there are more than 7,300 restaurants! Why not take to the streets, with kiddos in tow, and have a dessert fete? Go on a sugary adventure and indulge in the best that Chicago has to offer—here are a few to get you started.

The Patio at Café Brauer

Of course, Lincoln Park Zoo is on many must-do lists for families this summer. New to the zoo is a newborn Crowned Lemur, born at LPZ. You can also see two new African painted dogs, a new female polar bear and a small three-banded armadillo. After walking around the free-to-the-public zoo, visit The Patio at Café Brauer to sit waterside by the Nature Boardwalk. Kids can look around, view the restored prairie ecosystem, see and hear lots of birds flying around the pond and take in Chicago’s stunning skyline. On select dates, families can enjoy live music performed by the Old Town School of Folk Music. Kid favorite desserts include: butterscotch pudding, classic root beer floats, ice cream, brownie sundaes and a warm cookie skillet.
