A slam-dunk weekend is coming up. The Harlem Globetrotters are dribbling into town on a special tour created for their fans. If you have more free time on the last weekend before 2014 (here’s hoping!), check out a holiday lights trolley tour, Hyde Park ice skating rink and more family fun.

Rosemont

Harlem Globetrotters
The basketball stunt masters whoosh through town on their “Fans Rule” world tour. Expect slam dunks, team tricks and some serious hang time. Held Fri. at 7 p.m. Tickets start at $22. All ages. Event details.

Navy Pier

Winter WonderFest
Get your thrill fill at this blowout, which has rides for all ages, including a 28-foot-tall zip line, a slippery snowflake slide and a brand new toddler obstacle course. There’s also an ice skating rink and holiday train that zig-zags through lighted houses and scenes. Held thru Jan. 12. Admission is free; must buy wristband to participate in rides and activities. Snow Much Fun Exhibit

Hyde Park

Ice Skating at Midway Plaisance
This park was one of the main amusement drags of the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893 (it was the site of world’s first Ferris wheel). It’s still an inspirational spot where you can soak up views of the University of Chicago’s beautiful Gothic-style buildings. The huge rink offers ice skating lessons, as well as “rat” (pickup) hockey games for kids and adults. Held daily (except Christmas Day) thru Feb. 23. Adults, $3; children skate free. Skate rental is $6. All ages. Event details.

Downtown

Chicago Trolley Holiday Lights Tour
The coolest way to watch the winking and blinking of holiday lights is by trolley. Hook up with the big red trolleys for their annual Holiday Lights Tour. The lightly narrated two-and-a-half-hour adventure shows the best of Chicago’s holiday lights and stops at Lincoln Park Zoo’s Zoolights show. Held thru Dec. 31. Departs from the John Hancock Building. Adults, $29; children, $19. All ages. Event details.

Glenview

Storyland Exhibit
Get swept into seven loved children’s book by way of immersive environments (imagine the gardens in “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and the urban snowscape of “The Snowy Day”). They all have elements to touch, feel and learn from. Held thru Jan. 13. Kohl Children’s Museum. All ages. Event details.
