Dragon Boat Race for Literacy
Watch teams race on the Chicago River from a prime viewing point at Ping Tom Memorial Park. While there, see live entertainment and take a free trolley ride around Chinatown. Take in colorful sights, sounds and aromas as you learn more about Chinese and Asian cultures. Held Sat., 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Free. All ages. Event details.
Millennium Park Family Fun Fest
Yay! It’s back for a summer of interactive activities, sing-a-longs and circle dances from Old Town School of Folk, delightful story times, and arts and crafts for kids of all ages. There is new entertainment daily — so return often. Held thru Aug. 23 (10 a.m.-2 p.m. daily) at Chase Promenade North. Free. All ages. Event details.
Back Lot Bash Baby and Family Day
Get your kids in on Pride Month fun at this inclusive bash that celebrates the LGBT community. Get your world musically rocked by Jaclyn Rada and Alli Lynn at 11 a.m. and Laura Doherty at noon. Special guest and trick champion Noodles the Wonder Dog bow-wows the crowd at 1 p.m. and kids will be treated to face painting, arts and crafts, and puppet shows. “Amphibians” Exhibit at Shedd Aquarium
The new special exhibit showcases 40 different species of frogs, salamanders, and rarely seen caecilians. Learn more about their life cycles and their ability to adapt to their environments. Pirate Adventure Island at LEGOLAND Discovery Center
All hands on deck! Be among the first lads and lassies to experience this new attraction. Dress in your best pirate attire and set sail on an seafaring adventure for hidden treasure. Discover hidden sea creatures, spar in a pirate battle or walk the plank. Opens Saturday and then held all summer long. $18/person. All ages. Event details.
Enjoy all things strawberry including chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry ice cream and strawberry donuts. While there, take part in some of the other fun activities like face painting, art, live music and more! Each Sunday, admission to living history museum Naper Settlement includes free sundaes from Culver’s with do-it-yourself toppings, hands-on family activities and tours of historic buildings. “Festival of Flight” Bird Show
