You’ve already got the best camps and activity books lined up to ensure your kids don’t lose all their hard-earned math and reading skills. But things like kindness and empathy need practice too. Enter ClassDojo. In order to help kids develop the kindness habit and inspire compassion before the new year, the school communication platform is launching a brand-new, free series of activities to help kids boost their EQ (emotional quotient). Keep reading to find out everything you need to know!
What It Is
The Summer Kindness Series is a fun, free, weekly digest that aims to help kids learn new empathetic habits. In collaboration with child development expert Dr. Michele Borba, author of UnSelfie: Why Empathetic Kids Succeed in Our All-About-Me World, the nine-week series is geared toward school-aged kids and is full of fun ideas and hands-on activities based on Dr. Borba’s research.
“There’s never been a greater need than now for empathy education, and the Summer Kindness Series is a wonderful way to raise awareness that empathy can be taught, learned, and practiced, just like swimming or soccer,” said Dr. Borba. “It’s exciting to get to work with ClassDojo on this series, with their reach to millions of families in the U.S. and around the world. When families and teachers work as a team, the impact on kids is tremendous.”
How It Works
The series is free to everyone and anyone! Every Thursday, from Jun. 21st – Aug. 16th, ClassDojo will release a new kindness habit. Simply log on for bite-sized, ideas, tips and fun activities (fun stuff like feelings charades, a family motto creation and mindfulness jars) that work together week-by-week to build new habits and fun ways to practice. These are real strategies for parents and activities for collaborative play—kids can learn and practice nine essential kindness habits over the summer like reading emotions, curiosity, mindfulness and collaboration.
There’s even a Kindness Creation Challenge to keep families on their toes! Just submit your most inspired ideas on how to bring more kindness into the world to ClassDojo’s global community by sharing #SummerKindnessSeries on social media.
Families can join in anytime as activities are released each week through Aug. 16. Visit classdojo.com/summer-kindness-series for more information.
