Every parent has faced the bedtime struggle at some point. If no matter how many books you read and lullabies you sing, your baby still refuses to go to sleep, then you might want to try one dad’s ultimate bedtime hack: bore them to sleep.
As the dad in the video, Kevin Payne, explains to The Sun, “I’d been talking for a good 15 minutes before mentioning my work and that really seemed to do the trick. Being sleep deprived I find myself trying to make the best of these situations.” It’s not hard to see why the trick worked, as Payne’s explanation of his job as a technology resiliency manager sounds about as interesting as reading the phone book.
Despite his winning strategy actually working, Payne can’t help but sway his five-month-old son Carter awake, insisting that this “exciting stuff” could be his career someday. If you happen to try this sleep hack at home, quit while you’re ahead. And if you don’t have a career as sleep-inducing as Payne’s give that phone book a shot.
