Old Town might not sound like the hip, cool place to bring a wild and curious bunch of kids. But, it’s just that…and more! From kid-friendly farmer’s markets to consignment shops galore, there are so many hot spots in this Alexandria, Virginia enclave that you’ll need to make multiple trips just to soak it all in. Here’s where to get started.

Gadsby’s Tavern

Loaded with history, Gadsby’s Tavern has played host to George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and host of other presidents. Give the kids a thrill by following in some super famous footsteps to see what life was like for travelers in the 1700’s when taverns provided food, rest, news and political oratories. Perhaps Junior will be inspired to ditch his cargos for a pair of britches? Or join the debate club? Be sure to check out the Ice Well at the corner of N. Royal and Cameron Streets where 18th century ice and food was preserved from the heat and dirt of the city.
