The lazy days of summer–while we love them so–can also be some of the most stressful days of the year. There are camps to schedule, sports to shuttle to and fro, and grandparent visits to make. If your sleepless nights and busy days are catching up with you and the crew, it may be time for a break from it all. Luckily, that doesn’t mean you have to plan a vacation. Whether you’re into sports or spa days, we’ve rounded up a list of our favorite places in the DMV for families to chillax.
Palisades Glass Forest
Hidden gems are hard to find in D.C., but one of our favorites is also a great place for your family to relax: the Palisades Glass Forest. Just steps from the Palisades Playground, the forest features several sculptures created from materials ranging from wood and scrap metal to stained glass. Older kiddos will love exploring (and maybe finding a gnome or two!), while little ones will go ga-ga seeing their reflection in metal and hearing chimes. How the forest started or how it’s maintained is a mystery to us, but we like to think of it a local take on The Secret Garden.
