Do you have a budding chef in your home? Perhaps dinner preps are rarely done alone as your child frequently demands, “Let me do it!” If it tickles you to envision your child making a mess in someone else’s kitchen, then there’s great news for you. There’s a great, new cooking class for kids—Culinary U at the Clifton restaurant, Trummer’s On Main. Tummy growling yet?
What’s the gist?
This six-class course for children aged 5-14 emerged from Trummer’s On Main’s successful Petite Gourmand program; a tasting menu for kids. The crazy-fun and hands-on series will be led by acclaimed Executive Chef, Austin Fausett. To give you an example, the Petit Gourmand menu has included dishes such as smoked mozzarella Fried Arancini with escabeche mayo for kid-friendly dipping and a Make Your Own Sundae with all of the usual fixins’ like Cap’n Crunch and chocolate syrup.
What to expect?
Despite its prestige and hailed staff, Culinary U offers competitive pricing at $24 per class (meeting the first Sunday of every month) or $120 for the entire six courses. In their current program, the first lesson includes safety, basic knife skills, and how to prepare a pasta salad and homemade juice boxes. They will move on to pasta-cooking skills and making pizza dough and cookies. By the end of the course, students will learn various ways to cook vegetables and make accompanying dipping sauces, take an exam, and celebrate at a Graduation Luncheon with their parents.
