the scoop:

April is National Poetry Month and it’s cherry blossom season in Washington, DC. It’s a perfect time for families to enjoy a short form of poetry, originally from Japan, that celebrates the “bigness” in “small moments.” Come to a free event about the new picture book, H IS FOR HAIKU: A TREASURY OF HAIKU FROM A TO Z by Sydell Rosenberg (Pennycandybooks.com). Illustrator Sawsan Chalabi will entertain children and their parents by reading some of the simple but striking poems in H IS FOR HAIKU, at the East City Bookshop, on April 14 at 2 p.m.
