A vacation with kids can mean chaos, forgotten essentials, expensive accommodations, and the dreaded scowl from other not-so-kid-friendly hotel guests. As a result, you may think you’re limited to larger run-of-the-mill hotels that lack character and charm. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Your family can find a comfortable home away from home if you look for B&Bs that enjoy having those smaller, louder guests. Here’s our list of local kid-friendly B&Bs, which offer a whole lot more than just a bed and a breakfast (though you get those too). Each place is perfect for a stress-free getaway with innkeepers that welcome both you and your kids.

Swann House
Two words: swimming pool. If that’s not kid-friendly, we don’t know what is. Housed in a circa 1883 mansion in historic Dupont Circle, Swann House envelopes you in the grandeur of a bygone era while offering all the modern conveniences necessary for today’s family. All guest rooms are roomy, have a private bath, and are decorated with rich colors and luxurious fabrics. Some rooms have wood burning fireplaces, whirlpool bathtubs, private decks, and DVD players are available upon request for the 294th viewing of Moana. A good option for families is the Serengeti Suite, which features two bedrooms and a private entrance through a gated courtyard. Swann House openly welcomes children 8 years and older, but you can call and make special arrangements for younger tikes. $175 – $395/night
