Check out the ultra-talented thespians in the musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” or ohh and ahh at crafty kite flying tricksters slated to show off their stuff on the National Mall. Can You Spell “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”?
This charming musical tells the story of six awkward small-town pre-teens who just so happen to be really into spelling. The family-friendly show, whose overall theme is finding your tribe, was nominated for six Tony Awards in 2005. E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T. Fri.-Sun. Downtown. $35-$67. 10 and up. Event details.

Celebrate Spring (Finally!) at Tree Fest
After the winter we’ve had, you could probably use some fresh air. Head to the Tudor Place Garden where the guest of honor—green, leafy trees—will be celebrated with games, puppets, storytelling, and an artisanal market fair. Feel like going for a stroll? Stick around for the guided tree walk at 1 pm. Sat., 10 am-3 pm. Dupont Circle. Free. AllEvent details.

Kite Trick Showdown
The National Mall will be awash with kite fliers showing off their stunt skills during this annual event and competition. Sure, there will be experts from across the country doing fancy moves in the Rokkaku Battle and Hot Tricks Showdown, but there are also youth competitions that little ones can get in on at the Family Field. Swing by the activity tents to make a kite, decorate a wind sock, or score a free lesson from the Kite Doctor. Sat., 10 am-4:30 pm. National Mall. Free. AllEvent details.

Pop and Lock! Baby Loves Disco Family Dance Party
Baby Loves Disco, the original family dance party, has boogied back into the Beltway! Come dressed to impress (but comfy enough to shake the wiggles out). For all the non-driving moms and dads there’s a cash bar along with snacks and juice boxes for all! Sat., 11 am-1:30 pm. Silver Spring. $15 AllEvent details.
