And just like that we’re into the double-digit days of October. But don’t you fret—there’s still plenty of fall fun yet to be had (and we haven’t even showed off our little Halloween ghouls’ costumes yet). This weekend treat the family to a mountain bike ride through Montgomery County, pop art fun at Artisphere, or pumpkin painting at The Kentlands Oktoberfest. Next weekend we’ll talk tricks.

Epic Mountain Bike Rides and Festival
Biker boys and girls celebrate mountain biking (which, FYI, is kind of a big deal in Montgomery County) with this two-day event that kicks off with a slew of kids’ activities, including mini-rides, a pump track and bike rodeo. Grown-ups can get in on the 25-, 35-, 50-, or 65-mile rides through some of the most scenic MoCo parks. Sat-Sun, 10:00 am. Boyds. All. Event details.

The Kentlands Oktoberfest
The City of Gaithersburg hosts this Annual Oktoberfest, featuring horse-drawn wagon rides, pumpkin painting, a beer garden, and Bavarian food. This year’s new layout (it’s spreading beyond the Kentlands to Main St.!) will accommodate additional main stages showcasing variety of live musical performances and extra family fun. Cheers to that! Sun, 12:00 pm-5:00 pm. Gaithersburg. Free. All. Event details.

Velocity Dance Festival
You don’t have to have a lick of rhythm in you to enjoy this dance festival. Featuring world class dance companies and artists who call D.C. home, spectators will experience everything from movement and music, to hip-hop and spoken word in a family-friendly format. Fri-Sat. Chinatown. $18. All. Event details.

Capital Maritime Music Fest
This all-day music extravaganza will feature songs of the sea (we can’t promise “Row, Row, Row Your Boat,” however), a star spangled banner concert, and plenty of sing-a-longs. Standby for a noon concert by the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters and cameo story times featuring folklore and history of sea warriors, merchant sailors, and maritime communities. Sat, 11:00 am-7:00 pm. Judiciary Square. Free. All. Event details.

National Sheepdog Finals
Bring your pooch-loving little one to this annual sheepdog competition held at the Belle Grove Plantation in Middletown, Va (just an hour outside Washington, D.C.). Held to crown the best working sheepdog and handler team in the country, you’ll also witness duck herding, and police dog demonstrations. Basically, dogs behaving at their very, very best! Fri-Sun, 9:00 am. Middletown. $12 adults; $6 kids over 8; free kids under 8. All. Event details.

Pop Art Fun: Free Family Day at Artisphere
It’s all about the one and only Andy Warhol at Artisphere, where a free pop art family day will be presented in conjunction with Warhol’s Silver Clouds installation currently on view at the visual arts center. The free event features magician storyteller David London, pop art activities with Albus Cavus, and a Studio 54 inspired disco for kids featuring Baby Loves Disco. Sun, 12:00 pm-4:00 pm. Arlington. Free. All. Event details.
