Chill Factor: Polar Bear Dip
The 9th Annual Virginia Polar Bear Dip features a slew of grown-ups shedding layers and taking a dip into Reston’s Lake Anne. But these “polar bears” aren’t hopping into the frigid waters just because—it’s all for a good reason. Dippers are raising money for Camp Sunshine, a summer camp designed for kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Want to take the plunge yourself (and elicit several high fives from your kiddos)? Be our guest. Maple Sugaring Days
February is Maple Sugaring Month at Brookside Nature Center. Every Saturday and Sunday you’ll have an opportunity to experience the American tradition of maple sugaring. Watch the whole maple sugaring process from start to finish. See sap drip from trees, watch it boil down into sweet maple syrup, then sample a tasty treat.
