If you’ve spent the summer break taking baby steps, now’s the time to leap into the fun. And we’re here to help. Fill the weekend with unique family events like these–a youth ballet production about a band of mischievous elves, a cupcake walking tour, and a mini disco party for your entire crew.

Maryland Youth Ballet: The Elves and the Shoemakes

This re-imagined children’s ballet introduces you to the shoemaker’s daughter, her friends in desperate need of new shoes, and the mischievous elves who help them. Accompanied by beautiful music, costumed characters, and elfin magic, this production is sure to please littles and grown-ups, alike! Fri.-Sat., 10:30 am. $10. Ages 4 and up. Event details.

Follow the Cupcakes
Dwane Starlin, a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides, leads this sweet cupcake+history walking tour through Georgetown. Stops along the family-friendly jaunt include Baked and Wired, Sprinkles and Georgetown Cupcake. Between each bake shop, walkers will learn a few fun facts about D.C.’s most historic nabe. Sat., 1 pm-3 pm. $25. All ages. Event details.

Montgomery County Farm Tours
You can skip the crowded grocery store this week. Sixteen Montgomery County farms open their barn doors so that you can purchase super-fresh fruits, veggies, eggs, and plants. While you pick out your produce and chat with the grower, kids will have fun exploring the farm, listening to live music, and petting the animals. Sat.-Sun. Free. All ages. Event details.

National Harbor

Family Day at Bobby McKey’s Dueling Piano Bar
Go on. You know you’ve always wondered what would happen if you showed up at a bar with your double stroller and Baby Bjorn. You’re in a safe zone during Family Days at Bobby McKee’s Dueling Piano Bar at National Harbor. Once a month, they keep it clean and turn on the excitement with family-friendly dueling pianos. Sat., 1 pm-3:30 pm. All ages. Event details.

Pop and Lock! Baby Loves Disco Healthy Snacks Party
Come dressed to impress (but comfy enough to shake the wiggles out) for this family dance party. In addition to cutting a rug, kids can chase bubbles, twirl in hula hoops, and shake some maracas. At the bar you’ll find juice boxes and healthy foods to refuel little dancing bodies. Sat., 10:30 am-11 am. $12. All ages. Event details.

Travel the World Through Stories, Arts, and Crafts
At Play Around the World kids are exposed to other cultures around the world. Through stories, arts and crafts, songs, playing musical instruments, and games, little world travelers learn how other tots from all over the world play, what stories they listen to, what they wear and what songs and instruments they love. Fri.-Sun., 10:30 am-11:15 am. $21. Ages 1.5-8. Event details.
