June is National Gay Pride Month and Washington, DC is quite possibly the most fun place to be for celebrations. The list of family-focused events that have been added to the roster this year has been incredible. Some dates and times are still pending, so bookmark our story and we’ll keep adding events as decisions are made—keep in mind many are potentially rescheduling for later this summer or early fall. Sprinkle on some glitter, proudly raise those rainbow flags and add these fun activities to your family calendar.

Get Crafty with SAAM's Pride Family Zone

Every year, The Smithsonian American Art Museum celebrates Pride Month with a host of activities and special events. This year they are celebrating virtually;  access coloring pages featuring LGBTQ+ artists, a tutorial to make a rainbow windsock, instructions to make a rainbow pride flag, the secret recipe for puffy paint rainbow art and more on the SAAM website. Activity details.

Walk Across A Rainbow (Crosswalk)

At the corner of 17th & P you'll find a crosswalk painted in vibrant, rainbow hues. Created as a permanent installation in lieu of last year's pride festivities, this crosswalk pays tribute to the Pride flag, the transgender Pride flag and also includes brown and black stripes representing POC in the LGBTQ+ community. Now a landmark in Dupont Circle, this is a great starting point for a walking tour of this historically gay neighborhood. Activity details.

Tune In to a Drag Queen Story Time

This virtual event will feature a lively reading of children's nursery rhymes and classic tales by drag queen Ruth Allen Ginsberg. Hosted by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, this even is free, but participants must pre-register (so sign up NOW!). Event details.

Cheer on the Pridemobile Parade

On June 12th, colorful vehicles and well-decorated cars featuring all of the progressive Pride flag colors will take to the streets to bring the rainbow to YOU! Capital Pride Alliance is organizing this first-time event and taking its colorful caravan through downtown DC, Logan Circle, Dupont Circle and more. Can't make it to the parade route? You can still rock out to the parade playlist on Hot 99.5. Route map to be released soon. Event details.

Dance Your Proud Heart Out

Boogie down to the best (FREE!) beats courtesy of the DC Public Library. Every Fri. during the month of June the DC Public Library celebrates Pride Month with DISDance. The Pride Edition of this virtual dance party features LGBTQ+ playlists on Freegal; get your jam on with Still We Lead, Still We Live, Still We Laugh and Still We Love. Share your favorite pic or video and enter to win a chance at Queen of Pride! Event details.

Ride for Pride

Everyone is welcome at this Ride for Pride event on June 27. Starting at 9 a.m., cyclists are encouraged to gather at Lot 6 in Rock Creek Park for a 2-hour ride celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. Are all welcome at this event, so bring the family, haul out the cargo bike and get ready to pedal for pride. Event details.
