High tea and kids might not sound like two things that go together. But, in D.C. tea play dates are the latest and greatest way to spend an afternoon with your little ones. On certain days of the month some of the fanciest tearooms transform from stuffy rooms full of chattering, tea-sipping adults, into dynamic parties full of giggling, teacake-nibbling princes and princesses It’s a fun excuse to dress up in your best clothes and teach the bambinos about the importance of having manners. So don a top hat or a tiara and get ready to sip and snack in high-society style.


Kids Dessert Tea Party at The Mansion on O Street
With a motto like “Everything is possible. Dare to be different,” you know this isn’t going to be your average swanky tea room experience. The Mansion on O Street is a boutique hotel in the heart of Dupont Circle that’s known for its secret doors and passageways. Yes, you read that right, and yes, your kids will love it for that reason! They will also love that they can hold their own tea party in one of the mansion’s many private rooms. The tea party package features a selection of hot tea or cocoa, sweet breads, fresh fruits, the mansion’s signature silver dollar cookies, s’mores, and a sampling of english scones with creme fraiche and sweet butter. Tea with Mrs. B at The Grille at Morrison House
Join Mrs. B. for tea every third Saturday of the month from 2 pm-4 pm. This kid-friendly event features crafts, read-aloud story time, dress-up activities and lessons in manners. Mrs. B is Rebecca Czarniecki, maven of manners, etiquette and poise. She uses innovative teaching techniques to help people of all ages learn traditional and modern etiquette. Children are invited to dress up in themed attire and Mrs. B provides additional props and activity materials.

Peter Rabbit Tea for Children at the Ritz
Pinky’s up! This fancy tea party, which takes place Thursday-Sunday from 12 pm-4 pm, is especially designed for guests 12 and under.
