Summer may be unofficially over but you can still throw an outdoor party, or even get a jumpstart by planning for next year! Situated in Germantown and Boyds, Md, the South Germantown Recreational Park is just 30 minutes north of D.C. With a whopping 695 acres of land, you’re sure to find the perfect spot for your next shindig. Here are three kid-friendly options to get dibs on.

Splash Playground & Mini-Golf
If your little party-goers love water, they’ll love the Splash Playground. Waterfalls, fountains, slides, and other water features make it truly fun for all ages, from babies to big kids. There are on-site restrooms, dedicated changing rooms, and even lifeguards on duty. Within the Playground are covered picnic benches that are first-come, first-serve, and party tents are available for hourly rental (starting at $40/hour) just steps away from the Playground and Mini-Golf areas.

Picnic Shelters
Rather stay dry?  Less than a mile from the Splash Playground & Mini-Golf are four picnic shelters available for all-day rental ($300 from 9:00 am-8:00 pm). On-site are permanent (clean!) restrooms, a grass volleyball court, and ring-toss courts. Bonus: One of the largest, local favorite playgrounds, Adventure Playground, is only a short walk away.

Insider tips: Share the picnic shelter (and cost) with a friend, or two—one party in the morning, one in the afternoon. Shelter A is closest to the volleyball court and Adventure Playground, and Shelter D is closest to the ring-toss courts.

Adventure Playground
Having a playdate or more intimate party? One very large castle play structure in the center surrounded by two smaller boat play structures makes Adventure Playground a popular spot for local families. The first-come, first-serve picnic benches and the flat grassy areas are perfect for smaller picnic parties.
