Figuring out what to serve your kids for dinner—let alone getting them to eat it—can be a daily challenge. Luckily, the new Dr. Yum Meal-O-Matic app is here to save dinner time at your house! Here’s the scoop on this handy new tool for parents.
This new app is even more fun than the name is to say. The free app is an easy to use tool that helps you customize a meal plan based on the ingredients you have on hand. Designed by a pediatrician-led nonprofit, the app can help your family make healthy choices and waste less food. It’s a total a win-win.
“The Dr. Yum Meal-O-Matic makes it simple for busy folks to come up with last-minute healthy meals, not only helping families eat better, but also saving wasted food and time,” says Dr. Nimali Fernando, a Fredericksburg, Virginia-based pediatrician who founded The Dr. Yum Project.
“The epidemic of obesity in American families has reached an all time high in part due to our reliance on processed and fast foods. We wanted to create a tool that makes it easy for families to cook together in a convenient way that uses ingredients they already have in the kitchen,” she continues.
Using the app, you will first select what type of meal you’re in the mood for. Options include: Stir-fry, Curry in a Hurry, Super Soup, Busy Night Bake, Scrumptious Salads, Power Pasta or a Yum Bowl. The app is designed with colorful graphics to make it easy for even the youngest chefs in the kitchen to help out with the process.
Next you’ll select your ingredients based in what you have on hand, as well as taking into consideration any dietary restrictions. You then click the “Ready for the Next Step” button and the app will magically deliver you a custom step-by-step recipe that even includes a video showing you how to prepare the meal. The recipes are made simple so that cooks of all skill levels can create the dishes, with no special tools needed.
