The Bay Area Book Festival in downtown Berkeley offers a weekend of smart, easy fun to inspire and delight families and kids of all ages. Spread across Civic Center Park, the Festival is FREE and BART-accessible; ample parking. Dozens of DIY and STEAM activities range from crafting journals to building robots. Authors and illustrators from popular books will regale kids at the StoryTime Circle (tots) and Young Readers Stage (all ages). The hilarious Literary Death Match is an on-stage competition between sets of authors, judged by kids; versions appeal to middle-graders and teens. Oakland’s beloved Alphabet Rockers will return, thrilling the crowd in two live performances. Older readers can hear bestselling YA authors in conversation. Enjoy cozy reading nooks (hammocks!) and white inflatable structures where kids love to hang out. Thousands of high-quality kids’ books are FREE to take! Don’t miss the Festival – it happens only once a year.
