If your definition of “beach” includes the words “sun” and “warm,” this is rarely the beach for you. But Ocean Beach has its charms and is a great place to turn loose the littles for an afternoon of adventuring. Sand dollars dot the surf, begging to be admired and collected, while shipwrecked remains sometimes jut through the sand at low tide. Check out the sea lions at Seal Rock behind the Cliff House and run through the hollows of the Sutro Baths ruins across from Sutro Heights Park. If the kids get peckish, there’s bagels and sandwiches at Java Beach Cafe, or for something more substantial, the Sea Breeze Café (Judah and 45th Ave.) packs a lot of bite for your buck.
Bonus: Bring your bikes and skates out this weekend for the last Sunday Streets of the season from GGP down the Great Highway and along Ocean Beach!
