This long stretch of stroller-friendly retail heaven is on the border between Albany and Berkeley; this week we’ll round up our picks on the Berkeley end. Stay tuned for our Albany picks. Organic bedding, high-end nursery furniture, wooden toys and comfy, stylish baby clothes (Speesees and babysoy) can be found at ultra-cute O! babybaby. Pick out favorite tales, both new and used, at Pegasus Fine Books, one of their three Pegasus/Pendragon East Bay locations. Kids can get trimmed at Snippety Crickets while moms check out the eclectic gifts and of-the-moment clothing at Sottovoce, then the gang can meet up for some deep-dish at Zachary’s, or some “bocaditos” at Cactus Taqueria. If parents need a pick-me-up, there’s always Peet’s (believe the hype, the pumpkin spice latte really is that good) or the tempting truffles and edible art at the Xocolate Bar. And as a reward for being good little shoppers, you’ll want to take them to a nearby park to run out all that energy before the car ride home. North Berkeley’s flush with them, but J. Hinkel Park, just a few blocks to the northeast at Somerset and Southampton Avenues, has a playground for them to swing from, and even an ampitheater where the Berkeley Shakespeare Company performs during the summer months.
