St. Matthew’s Parish School is an independent, coeducational Episcopal day school for Preschool (3 years old) through 8th-grade students.

At St. Matthew’s, we believe young children gain a sense of their identity and self-worth when they explore at their own pace and experience success at their developmental level. Our Early Childhood program (Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten) allows students to learn through experiential interactions with materials, ideas, and other people. Play is one of the major ways in which young children learn about the world around them. Through play, children learn about language, develop intellectual concepts, build social relationships and understandings, strengthen physical skills, and deal with stress.

In order to develop students who will serve, lead, and flourish, we feel it’s important to foster critical, inquisitive minds. Our academic approach helps students develop their own driving questions, conduct research, identify and contact experts, self-advocate, and create final projects in both collaborative and independent exercises. These valuable skills begin in Early Childhood and Lower School (K-grade 4) as students develop critical cognitive and social skills creating a strong foundation for our Middle School (grades 5-8) program to build on.
