It’s time to get your kids prepped and polished for school. As much as they try to convince you that their pool hair is perfectly fine for the classroom, you know otherwise. From braids to buns and curls to wisps, click through the gallery for 10 DIY Fall hairstyles to kick off your school year in style.

Do the Twist

If kiddo has super curly hair, the best way to keep it knot-free during the school year is to create all over twists (a la this cutie from Wow Hairstyle ). On the weekends, undo the twists and let your little ones hair bounce around. Re-twist strands post-weekend for the week ahead.

What You’ll Need:
Styling Cream
Rattail comb

How to:
Step 1: Apply a little bit of styling cream to freshly washed hair. Separate the section of hair to be flat twisted (to the scalp).

Step 2: Starting at the hairline, split the section to be twisted into two parts. Next, wrap these two parts around each other two to three times. Working your way back toward the crown, use your fingers to continue splitting your row of hair in half. Incorporate each new half with one of the old ones and twist it all together again (sort of like a French braid, with two sections instead of three). Continue this process until you reach the end of the row, then secure at the scalp with a rubber band.

Step 3: With the remaining hair, two strand twist. If the ends unravel, secure them with a small elastic.
